Our team at Stainless Outfitters Inc. wants to help you make your property–whether it’s a business location, a home, or a boat–the best it can be, and we offer a number of services and products in order to achieve that goal. In this article, we’ll be focusing on just one of those products, namely door thresholds, and going over a few reasons why it’s important to choose the right ones.
What is a Threshold?
Thresholds are the strips of wood or metal at the bottom of doorways. They serve many purposes, from leveling out the flooring from one side of the door to the other to keeping pests from sneaking inside through the gap between the door and the frame.
- Keep Your Floor Level- As we mentioned, one of the main purposes of thresholds is to keep the flooring level. At any doorway where two different types of flooring meet, there will be a gap between one and the other, which needs to be filled or covered in order to prevent dirt and debris from falling into it. In addition, keeping the floor level is also important when it comes to accessibility–even if you don’t have any mobility issues, an uneven floor still makes it harder to keep your step.
- Prevent Pests- Your choice of thresholds especially matters when it comes to your exterior doors. A poor choice in threshold can leave a gap for insects and pests to potentially enter through, and you clearly don’t want that. Our team can help you select the ideal threshold to keep these unwanted guests outside where they belong.
- Improve Energy Efficiency- In addition to preventing pests, the right threshold can help prevent passive heat transference, preventing excess heat from leaking outside during the winter or from getting in in the summer. This will make your building more energy efficient and potentially save you money on your utility bills.
